Chimney Flashing and Storm Repair, explained.
A chimney is a brick column passing through a sloped roof, and every side needs flashing. Step flashing tucks under the shingles, and counter-flashing laps over it from the brick. When any of it bends, rusts or loses its sealant, water gets in.
We re-flash chimneys with new step and counter-flashing, add or repair a cricket on the uphill side where needed and check the surrounding decking for water damage.
Signs you need this
- Leaks appear near a fireplace or chimney
- Flashing is bent, lifted or rusted
- Sealant on a chimney has cracked
- Brick joints around the chimney look damaged
